Flower Vases-The Most Versatile

|

When growing your own cut flowers it is most helpful to have three different sizes of flower vases- small, medium, and large. This will allow you to display your flowers no matter the season, size, or quantity of your flowers.

Flower Vases Small

Small vases that hold 1-3 stems are perfect for the beginning of the flower season. It is always so exciting to cut that first flower in the spring. I like to use my small vase for my first daffodil to welcome spring! It is also great for dinner plate dahlias. These large flowers are beautiful and stunning on their own. One large dahlia in a small vase is gorgeous. It is also a great vase for kids to use because stem size doesn’t matter so much and it is small and easy to manage.

Flower Vases Medium

Medium vases that flare out at the end are great for making good sized arrangements with the typical sized flowers. This is the vase that is used for most of the season in my home. It is great to add to and the perfect size for the dinner table. A simple mason jar also makes a beautiful rustic vase and gift.

Flower Vases Large

Large vases are great for large flowers. I never knew how to best arrange sunflowers until I started using my large vase. This really helped with the portions of the flowers to the proportion of the vase. It definitely is a show stopper too. Great to use in the peak season.

Where to Get Vases

Before you go buy vases PLEASE check your local thrift store. I have never had to buy new vases. Unless you want a specific looking vase there is no need to buy new. The thrift store is always full of them.

What Prolongs the Life of Cut Flowers

Now that you have the perfect vases, it is time to make the flowers last as long as you can. When prolonging the life of your flowers it is important to remember these things. Flowers want it

  1. Cool
  2. Dark (out of direct sunlight)
  3. Clean fresh water (water should be replaced every 2-3 days)

Doing these three things will help your flowers looking beautiful longer. If you want to go above and beyond you can also

  1. Add fertilizer every 2-3 days
  2. Cut ½-1 inch of the stems off every 2-3 days to help the flower soak up more water and fertilizer.
