I have made up three different layouts for your cut flower garden this year. These plans are great for any new gardener and will make the planning a breeze. All you have to do is plant, watch grow, and enjoy the flowers this year. You can do it! I believe in you, and know that you will have so much happiness from growing flowers.

Plan 1- Sweet Pea Tower

This plan is for anyone who has almost no space. The only space you need is a small deck, porch, or balcony. This cutting flower garden will only have one type of flower- sweet peas, grown vertically. Sweet pea flowers smell amazing! You will be able to smell these flowers by just walking by the plant.

Supplies

What you will need is

  • Large Pot or 20 gallon grow bag
  • Soil to fill your container
  • Sweet pea seeds
  • Long sticks or bamboo sticks for the flowers to climb

Step by Step Guide

Step 1- take 2 paper towels and completely wet it. Then put the seeds in between the paper 2 towels. Then place the damp paper towel (with seeds in the middle) into a plastic bag and let soak overnight.

Steps 2- fill your containers with potting soil and water the soil. This will make sure that there are no air pockets and allow the soil to settle. You want the soil moist enough that if you squeezed the dirt in your hand it would hold shape, but no water would drip out of the dirt.

Step 3- Place the sticks around the inside edges of the pot to make a Teepee for the flowers to climb up.

Step 4- Plant the pre soaked sweet pea seeds around the Teepee 6 inches apart.

Plan 2- 8X4 Raised Bed Cutting Garden

This is a great cutting garden if you have a little more space and want flowers all summer long. This garden is FULL of flowers and you will just have to decide what color combinations you like best. Pick flower colors combinations that go well together, but you really can’t go wrong. Flowers are already beautiful, so it is hard to mess up!

Plan 3- Fence Line or Front Yard Cut Flower Garden

Many people think they don’t have room in their yard for a cutting garden. Do you have a fence line? Then you have enough space! I made this plan to have 5 different types of annual flowers, but I have also just done cosmos and the results were spectacular. Something about having an abundance of one type of flower looks so magical and makes your life feel full. I also put an arched trellis in the middle for something for the sweet peas to climb on, but you can take this out or let the sweet peas climb the fence. The Cut Flower Garden Layout Plan is for a 20ft fence line, but you can half this plan for a 10ft fence line, or just do one type of flower for an abundant show stopper.

Flowers in this garden plan are also-
Sweet Peas
Cosmos
Dahlias
Zinnias
Dahlias
Sunflowers

Extra Tips to Remember

  • How to Prepare your Soil- Prepare you soil by losing the soil and added compost, fertilizer, or any other needed amendments
  • Sweet Peas are planted in the early spring, once your ground can be worked (not frozen). The seed pods are NOT edible like snap peas or shelling peas
  • Cosmos, Dahlias, Zinnias, Sunflowers want to be planted in full sun, and when night time temperatures are not getting any lower than 32 degrees F, preferably 40 degrees F.
